Biography

One of the most prominent faces of the newer generation of Indian Classical Musicians, Indrayudh Majumdar is certainly one of the most loved Sarod players performing across the globe. He concentrates on maintaining the purity of Indian Classical Music coupled with smart presentation in his concerts, which attract people of all ages.

Indrayudh has been learning Sarod from his father, the world-renowned Sangeet Natak Akademi Award Winning Sarod Maestro, Padma Shri Pandit Tejendra Narayan Majumdar, since he was five years old. He represents the Senia Maihar Gharana, which was founded by one of the greatest saints of Indian Classical Music, Acharya Baba Ustad Allauddin Khan. He has also been receiving vocal guidance from his mother, Vidushi Dr. Manasi Majumder, who is a renowned Indian Classical Vocalist. Initially, he had also received taalim from his grandfather Late Ranjan Majumder. He had the fortune of receiving taalim on Laya & Taal from the renowned Tabla Maestro, Pandit Subhankar Banerjee, whom we have lost a few years back. The combination of the training in Gayaki, Tantrakari and Laya isthoughtfully intertwined within the heart wrenching intricacies in Indrayudh’s music.

Indrayudh is the FIRST INDIAN to receive the prestigious Salon Di Virtuosi Award in New York, which is awarded annually to the Best Classical Musicians across the globe. He was handed over this award after a special concert at the Consulate General of India - New York in June, 2018.

He is already a regular performer across India, USA and UK. By this young age he has already performed and enthralled thousands of music lovers in the major cities like Kolkata, Mumbai, Delhi, Chennai, Bengaluru, Varanasi, Ahmedabad, Hyderabad, Pune, Mysore, Maihar, New York, Boston, London, Washington DC, Chicago, San Francisco, Los Angeles, Phoenix, Seattle, Portland, Dallas, Houston, Austin, Atlanta, Liverpool and Manchester among others.

He is one of the rare performers of Sarod who is not only popular for his Hindustani Classical recitals and collaborations across the nation, but has also won hearts in collaborating regularly with Carnatic, Bollywood, Ghazal, Folk, Middle Eastern, Latin American, Pop, Jazz and World Music too. He has played in numerous Bollywood original popular soundtracks.

Indrayudh had the privilege to perform alongside legendary masters like Pandit Swapan Chaudhuri, Pandit Anindo Chatterjee, Pandit Subhankar Banerjee, Pandit Bickram Ghosh, Pandit Tanmoy Bose, Pandit Arvind Kumar Azad, Ustad Akram Khan and Pandit Arup Chatterjee.

Indrayudh Majumdar, an MBA (Marketing) by academic qualification, had developed keen interest in every genre of music right from his childhood. He has taken up Sarod as his primary choice because of his sheer love for the instrument and Indian Classical Music.

He is also a composer, who has scored for Bengali movies, documentaries, music albums and video commercials. His compositions are also performed in the collaborations he does with the Jazz and World Music artists across the globe.

Indrayudh Majumder, along with his father, also organizes one of the Biggest Festivals of Indian Classical Music & Dance in India, Swara Samrat Festival (alias, SSF), dedicated to his father's Guru Swara Samrat Ustad Ali Akbar Khan. A galaxy of the greatest maestros performs every year in this festival in India, which is attended by a whopping 10,000 - 15,000 people from across the globe every season.
